Gulbrand P. Framstad was born on April 15, 1855 to Peder L. and Anne Framstad in near Gran, Hadeland, Norway. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church of his native community. The years of his childhood and youth were spent in Norway until the age of 17, when he came with his parents to America and located in Mitchell County, IA where he has continued to live until his death.
On March 21, 1882, he was united in marriage by Rev. Johan Olson, of St. Ansgar, to Miss Dorthe Olsdatter Slette, who also came from the same place in Norway. To this union eight children were born: Peter G. Framstad of Crosby, ND; Mrs. Andrew (Kristine) Hanson, Mrs. Anna Anderson, Mrs. Gilbert (Olga) Lee, Mrs. Della Lee, and Ole Henry Framstad, all of this community. A daughter, Anna, died in infancy and a son, Dan George, preceded him in death on February 26, 1923. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Mrs. Amund (Dorthe) Amundson and Mrs. Gjert (Randi) Paulson. Besides his wife and living children, ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren survive.
Since coming to this community, the departed brother has been a highly respected and active member of the Rock Creek Lutheran church. This church he loved, supported and attended. Thirteen years ago he retired from his activities on the farm and bought a house in Osage where he died on January 5, 1936.
The Rev. O.C. Myhre conducted funeral services at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church on January 8th. Interment was made in the Rock Creek cemetery.
