Carl Johann Carlson was born at Trondhjem, Norway on December 15, 1870, to Carl and Ingeborg Stokke. He was baptized at the Hlade church and confirmed at the Trondhjem Cathedral at the age of fifteen. After coming to America, he located temporarily with his uncle, Steners Carlson of Callendar, Iowa. He later came to the Rock Creek community and has since been a member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church.
On December 13, 1893 he was united in marriage to Miss Kari Klemesrud at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church. They lived for a short time on the farm of L.I. Olsen in Cedar Township, but in the fall of 1894 they moved to their own farm in Rudd Township, Floyd County, Iowa and on this place, he continued to live until the time of his death.
Mr. Carlson is survived by his wife and five children: Ina and Knut at home; Christina of Osage; Mrs. David (Lena) Buckmaster of Hammond, Indiana; Mrs. John G. (Gladys) Davidson of Emmetsburg, Iowa; and two grandchildren.
He died on Monday, June 9, 1930. Funeral services were held at Rock Creek Lutheran Church on June 12th, with Rev. O.C. Myhre officiating. Interment was made in the Rock Creek cemetery.
