Margarethe Finsand was born at Hadeland, Norway on August 16, 1846. She came to America in 1868 and located temporarily at Blanchardville, Wisconsin. At that place, she was married to Thosten Finsand, of Ringerike, Norway in 1870. In 1872 they came to Iowa and she has since lived in Cedar Township, Mitchell County and at her last home fifty years of her life were spent.
In her wedlock, twelve children were born, and of these children, the following survive: Mrs. George (Olava) Moe, of this community; Hans, Peter, Christian, Martin, Theodore, and Oscar, of MacRorie, Saskatchewan, Canada. A brother, Jacob Halvorson, of Wigdal, Minnesota and a sister, Mrs. Edward Johnson, of Milan, Minnesota also survive.
Mrs. Finsand was a woman of a friendly, kind, and patient disposition, and has led a humble and exemplary life. During her residence in this community, she has been an active member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church and of the Ladies’ Aid society, of which she was a charter member. Whenever it was possible for her to do so, she attended services and took her part in the life of the community.
She enjoyed good health until about a year ago, when it became noticeable that her strength was gradually failing. However, she was confined to her bed only a week until she passed away August 15, 1933, at the age of 87 years.
Funeral services were held at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church on August 17, 1933. The Rev. O.C. Myhre was in charge and interment was made in the Rock Creek cemetery.

Margarethe Halvorsdatter was born August 16, 1846 at Ringerike, Hadeland, Norway to Halvor Thompson and Pauline Christiansdatter. She emigrated from Adal, Buskerud, Norway in May 1869 and settled at Blanchardville, Wisconsin.
She married Tosten Olsen Finsand in 1870 at Monroe, Wisconsin. The couple had 12 children:
Olava (born February 19, 1872 Albany, Green, Wisconsin, died November 11, 1958 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa);
Christi (born October 29, 1873 Rock, Mitchell, Iowa, died May 27, 1878 Same);
Hans (born February 22, 1875 Rock, Mitchell, Iowa, died September 21, 1942 Colusa, California);
Peder (born October 12, 1876 Rock, Mitchell, Iowa, died February 23, 1955 Rockford, Floyd, Iowa);
Christian Tosten (born October 22, 1878 Rock, Mitchell, Iowa, died December 29, 1959 Charles City, Floyd, Iowa);
Martin (born July 17, 1880 Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa, died January 30, 1966 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa);
Ole (born September 26, 1882 Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa, died September 26, 1882 same (twin));
Maria (born September 26, 1882 Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa died February 19, 1928 Iowa (twin));
Thea (born July 38, 1884 Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa, died September 20, 1889 Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa);

Margrethe Finsand was a wife, mother and the neighborhood mid wife. Her home was set in the woods across the creek and east of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church. Parts of it were standing in the 1960's but by 2000, little remains but the foundation.
