a.k.a. Karen Davidson

#1:

Mrs. Carrie Davidson

Karen (Carrie) Christopherson was born February 9, 1853, at Valders, Hedemarken, Norway, on a farm called Steinhaugen and now known as Jerne, near the towns of Lille Hamar and Hamar, not far from Lake Niosen and the city of Oslo. She departed this life at Riceville, Iowa, December 13, 1936, at 7 o'clock p.m.

Her parents were Christopher Anderson, born August 8, 1797, and Gunnar Anderson, born January 14, 1814. Seven children were born to them on the Steinhaugen farm. Andrew, the eldest son, managed the farm until his death in Norway.

Mary, the eldest daughter, came to America, married L. H. G. Larsen of Chicago, and they later made their home in Ridgeway, Iowa, where they had a general merchandise store.

Ingeborg Bjorge, the third child, came with her husband and settled in Wisconsin on a farm near Ettrick. She passed away the latter part of January, 1936.

Anette, the fourth child, came to Chicago and later moved to South Dakota, where she died.

Matthew and Karen (or Carrie) Christopherson came to America together, settling in Chicago.

Gustave, the seventh child, came to America after the others. Later Matthew settled in Ettrick, Wisconsin, near his sister, and Carrie went to Ridgeway with her sister, Mary. She clerked in the store for a number of years and while there met Andrew Martin Davidswon, who during his life was a grain dealer for more than fifty years. They were married October 23, 1880, at Austin, Minnesota, and they began their married life at Adams, where Mr. Davidson bought grain and paid for it in cash before there were any banks there.

Their first son, Carter Devin Davidson was born there and died in infancy.

They moved to Sanborn, Iowa and their three living children were born there. In 1900 Mr. Davidson built an elevator at Riceville, Iowa, and the family have resided there ever since.

Andrew and Carrie Davidson were staunch Lutherans and at Sanborn worked hard to maintain the church. Mr. Davidson was an expert Bible student and his wife was president of the Aid society continuously for fifteen years. She was very fond of music.

After Andrew Davidson passed away February 28, 1924 and Mrs. Davidson continued to live in their home at Riceville with occasional visits to her daughters at St. Paul, Minnesota.

Her final sickness occurred December 1, 1936 and she was apparently improving, but had a relaps Saturday, the 13th and fell asleep like a tired child that day, aged 83 years, 10 months and 4 days.

She leaves to revere her memory, her two daughters, Emma(?) Louise Aker, Adella(?) May(?) Brown, and one son Hilmer Cornelius Davidson; also three granddaughters, Bernadine _____(?) and Carol Brown and _____(?) Davidson.

She united with the Congregational Church in Riceville, in June 1910, and was a faithful member, serving God as long as her physical strength permitted her to do so.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 16, 1936.
