DONALD EUGENE "SPUD" WEST

MITCHELL - Donald Eugene "Spud" West, 87, formerly of Mitchell, died Thursday (March 15, 2001) at the Riceville Community Rest Home, Riceville.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today and one hour before service time Monday at the funeral home.

Donald was born June 18, 1913, in Mitchell County, near New Haven, the son of Frank L. and Charlotte (Bisbee) West. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1931. He lived and farmed near Mitchell, raising and feeding cattle, and doing custom farming until retiring in 1975. He enjoyed raising Texas Longhorn cattle on his farm.

He was united in marriage to Elaine (Johnson) Starr Porter on July 8, 1984, in Highmore, S.D. He enjoyed bowling and has resided at the Riceville Community Rest Home since October 2000.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine West, of Riceville; stepson, Benny Starr, of Elma; and seven nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin and Gerald West; two sisters, Hila Delaney and Dorothy Young.
