ELMER F. HEUSMAN

OSAGE - Elmer F. Heusman, 84, of Phoenix, Ariz., and formerly of Osage, died Friday (March 9, 2001) at the Immanuel Care Center in Peoria, Ariz.

Elmer was born Nov. 18, 1916 at Osage, the son of John and Willamina (Wilk) Heusman. He attended country school in Mitchell County. Elmer worked the family farm five miles south of Osage. He was first married to Mildred Small. She passed away in March of 1954. In March of 1956 Elmer sold the farm and moved to Osage.

On June 2, 1956 he was united in marriage to Marjorie Thorsen at Osage. Elmer worked at the Osage Greenhouse for a while, later he went on and opened a Corn Sheller Business in Osage. After a few years he sold that and then he worked for the Mitchell County Road Maintenance, where he operated a road grader and retired in 1982. Between 1982 and 1995 they wintered in Phoenix, Ariz. Marjorie passed away in June of 1995. Elmer moved to Phoenix in October of 1997.

He enjoyed fishing, horseshoes and playing games with his grandchildren.

The family asked that memorials be made in Elmer's name to the American Cancer Society or to the Trinity Hospice L.L.C. at 5314 N. 12th St. Suite 202 in Phoenix, Ariz. 85014.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in rural Osage.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage and will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

He is survived by one son, Gary E. Heusman and his wife, Judy, of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Julie Diggs, Susan Austin, Laura Kass, and Scott Heusman; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, and one brother, Lester Heusman.
