THOMAS M. LEVERS
OSAGE, IOWA - Thomas M. Levers, 73, of South Sioux City, Neb., and formerly of Osage, died Saturday (March 17, 2001) at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.
He was born March 14, 1928 in Osage, son of Harold and Pauline (Atherton) Levers. He was raised in Osage and graduated from Osage High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict.
Thomas married Rita A. Hartwig on Feb. 14, 1954 in Nora Springs. He worked as a mechanic in Osage and Waterloo. The couple moved to Le Mars in 1961 where they owned and operated two laundromats. In 1979 they moved to Sioux City where he worked for the Toy National Bank and then for Norwest Bank until he retired in 1992. Rita died Dec. 9, 1993.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sioux City and American Legion Post 307 in South Sioux City, Neb.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with the Rev. Robert Melhorn officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery with military rites by the Osage American Legion Post 278.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
He is survived by a daughter, Sherri Kettner, of South Sioux City, Neb.; two grandchildren, Jamie and Katie; and a sister-in-law, Lucy Levers, of Cottage Grove, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rita, in 1993; a brother, Richard Levers; and a sister, Ruth Skuster.
