Rites held for
E. J. Counsell

Funeral services were held Tuesday Afternoon, November 11, for Ernest Counsell, 71, who died November 8 at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital following an illness of cancer for eight months.

The Reverend Joseph Nesheim and the Reverend Harold Larson, church pastors, were in charge of services with burial in the Osage Cemetery. Arrangements were by C. R. Champion and Sons.

Ernest James Counsell was born September 19, 1909, on a farm west of New Haven, the son of Ernest A. and Clarissa Carver Counsell. He attended the rural schools and was graduated from Osage High School.

Ernest Counsell and Myrtle Anderson were married July 17, 1926 in Charles City. He farmed all his life until he retired to New Haven in 1972. He continued farming and carpentering and did rock and gem work.

He had been active in early Conservation Club and an active member of the Charles City Rock and Gem Club.

Surviving are his wife, Myrtle; one son Carlin Counsell of Cresco, two daughters, Mrs. C. E. (Ruth) Wiegers of Boise, Idaho, and Mrs. Marise Groves of Portland, Oregon; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, four step grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Ernest (Grace) Harrison of Osage.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
