FRED WIELAND JR.

OSAGE, IOWA - Fred Wieland Jr., 76, of Osage, died Thursday (June 1, 2000) at his home. He was born Dec. 30, 1923, in Cresco, the son of Fred and Fannie (Havens) Wieland. He attended the Burr Oak No. 1 School in Mitchell County.

Fred was united in marriage to Edna Engebretson on June 27, 1945, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. In his early years, he drove truck and later was employed at Armours for many years. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, farming, raising horses and mules, going to auctions of all kinds and having coffee with friends. He will be sadly missed by all of his family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Champion Funeral Home in Osage, and one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

Fred is survived by his wife, Edna, of Osage; one son, Donald Wieland and his wife, Sherry, of Osage; one daughter, Dianna Lowe, of Little Cedar; six grandchildren, Lisa Emerson and her husband, Kirk, LaVonne Wolf and her husband, Pat, Michael Hobkirk and his wife, Suzanne, Mark Hobkirk, John Wieland and his wife, Hope, and Bryan Wieland and his wife, Michelle; 10 great-grandchildren, Sara, Amy and Alex Emerson, Samantha and Jessica Wolf, Adria and Rachel Hobkirk, Grant and Garrett Wieland and Natasha Wieland; a brother, Howard Wieland and his wife, Mavis, of Osage; two sisters, Mary Rosensweig and her husband, Robert, of Riceville and Doris Sonberg and her husband, Donald "Jack," of Osage; and many nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Albert Wieland; and one sister, Lola Kramer.
