Anton Suchy was born July 22nd, 1863, in Tezkov State, Bohemia. His parents were Vaclav and Lillie Suchy.

There were five brothers, Vaclav, Frank, Joseph, John and Louis, and two sisters, Vernonika and Mary. Those who have preceded him in death are his father and mother, brothers Vaclav and Louis, and sister Mary, and two grandchildren who died in infancy.

As a boy Mr. Suchy went to school in the Bohemian schools until he was thirteen years of age. He then learned the carpenter trade and at the same time, in leisure hours, attended the German school.

In 1880, when he was seventeen years of age, he came to America. His first extended stop in the United States was made at Cleveland, Ohio, where he worked at his trade for more than six months. He then came on and farmed with his brother Joseph.

On December 16, 1884, he was united in marriage to Anna Krulish. To this union were born four children: Mary, now Mrs. Frank Plevka, of Myrtle, Minnesota, Louis, on the home farm east of St. Ansgar, Lillie, now Mrs. John Cerney, of Austin, Minnesota, and Minnie, now Mrs. Jerome Cafourek, of London, Minnesota.

After renting for several years, Mr. and Mrs. Suchy bought the homestead farm, east of St. Ansgar, where they worked and saved and reared their family. Fourteen years ago they moved to St. Ansgar.

Mr. Suchy had always been in good health until a year ago, when he started to fail. Everything was done that could be done to save him, but he passed away at his home in St. Ansgar Thursday evening, October 18, at 10:35. He passed away very peacefully with his hands quietly clasped in his characteristic way.

It was a great joy to him during the last few months to have his children and grandchildren together around his bedside almost every weekend. The tender care of his beloved life-time helpmate, of his daughters and sons, and especially, too, of his granddaughter Lottie, was a great comfort to him in his last days.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife and four children and also fourteen grandchildren: Alice and John Plevka, William, Louis and Albert Suchy, Lottie, Edith, Leona, Ella, John and Irene Cerney, Elmer, Ruth and Florence Cafourek, a brother, Joseph, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Frank, in Czecho-Slovakia, and John, in Osage, Iowa, and one sister, Vernonika, in Czecho-Slovakia.

Mr. Suchy was an honest, industrious and helpful citizen and neighbor. He was a leader among the Bohemian people of the St. Ansgar community. For 18 years he was the president of the Order of the White Rose Society and did much to develop the spirit of brotherhood and helpfulness among the Bohemian people. He was attached to the soil, liked to see the crops grow, and to keep in touch with the best methods of cultivation and handling of crops.

Anton Suchy was a tender man and loved, above all else, his home and his family.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist Church, Rev. Otis Moore officiating. Interment was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.
