WALTER ROWCLIFFE

OSAGE, IOWA - Walter Rowcliffe, 78, of Osage, died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Osage.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 402 State Street, Osage, with the Rev. Chris Gugel officiating. Burial will be in Orchard Cemetery, with graveside military rites by VFW Post 7920 and American Legion Post 278.

Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today at Champion Funeral Home, 702 State Street, Osage, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Walter Rowcliffe was born August 29, 1921, in Forest City, the son of Willis and Elsa (Neubauer) Rowcliffe. He attended Mason City schools. He served with the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 in the European Theater.

On June 17, 1946, he married Eythel Baxter in Ayrshire. He farmed in the Orchard area and also owned and operated Rowcliffe Machine Company in Osage until his retirement. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage, member of American Legion Post 278 and Osage VFW Post 7920. He served as a Soil Conservation District commissioner and served on the Faith Home Board for six years.

Survivors include his wife, Eythel, Osage; four sons, Bill Rowcliffe and his wife, Cari, Lenexa, Kansas., Bim Rowcliffe and his wife, Debi, Sherman, Texas, Wally Rowcliffe and his wife, Dana, Strawberry Point, and Wesley Rowcliffe and his wife, Julie, Osage; four daughters, Norma Brunner and her husband, David, Osage, Donita Link and her husband, Roger, of Maxwell, Nancy Dammen and her husband, Kevin, Osage, and Nadine (Chip) Stannard and her husband, Mark, of Elkader; four sisters, Harriett Ostermeier of Michigan City, Ind., Lola Duff of Baraboo, Wis., Bonnie Willemsen, Mason City, and Ruth Cannon, of Elma; 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Bonnie Louise.
