FERDINAND UTECHT
DIES AT HIS HOME
AT AGE OF 91 YEARS

Another pioneer of Mitchell county, the oldest male resident in Osage, Ferdinand Karl Utecht, has been called to rest. He died peacefully at his home at 319 S. 10th St., Osage, Tuesday at 2 a.m., in his 92nd year.

He had been in failing health for the past year. He was cared for by his niece, Elizabeth Schroeder, nurse at the Savre hospital, who had made her home with his since 1922.

Ferdinand Karl Utecht was born November 4, 1852 at Barnimslow, Pommerania, Germany, the son of Daniel and Wilhelmina Utecht. He attended the public shools and was baptized and confirmed in the Barnimslow Evangelical Lutheran Church. As a young man of 18 he came to America, settling in the St. Ansgar community where he worked for many years. He then purchased an 80-acre farm in St. Ansgar township, and later a 200-acre farm near Stacyville.

In 1887 he married Reann Haskell of Stacyville. They retired to Osage in 1900, and he faithfully cared for her during her protracted illness. She preceded him in death in 1918.

In 1922 his niece, Elizabeth Schroeder, came to make her home with him, and has cared for him faithfully in the last years. They united with the Osage Lutheran Church in 1932.

His parents, two brothers, Wilhelm and Karl, his wife, three sisters, Marie Utecht Braatz, Wilhelmina Utecht Schroeder, and Emily Utecht Schumann and a stepdaughter, Ida Haskell Balsley, have all preceded him in death.

To mourn their loss are his niece, Elizabeth Schroeder and two nieces in Germany, Anna Daniel and Marie Louise Von Stranstz.

All of his life there has been a definite pattern of love and kingliness towards children.

Funeral services were held today, Thursday, at 1:30 at the home and the Osage Lutheran church at 2:00 p.m. Interment was in the Osage cemetery.
