J. S. HILL DROPPED DEAD
WHILE SHOVELING WALKS TUESDAYThe news of the sudden death of J. S. Hill became known yesterday evening, and, needless to say, the passing of this venerable man has caused a great deal of sorrow in the community where he has spent so many years.
Mr. Hill has been in feeble health for several years, and it is not to be wondered, at, as his next birthday would be his 90th one. He had had a harsh cold and his wife had advised him against his going out of doors, but the confinement was more than he could stand, and the first opportunity to leave until now.
He donned his wraps, took a snow shovel, and started cleaning the walks. He called across the street to Mr. Olson and visited also with Ole Leverson, assuring them he was “feeling fine”. They saw him fall, and immediately rushed to his side, but he breathed his last as they were carrying him into the house. This was about 5 o’clock in the afternoon.
Mr. Hill is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Frank Chatman, Sr., his son, George Hill, of Orchard, and a daughter in Wisconsin. His wife, formerly Mrs. Boughton, has several sons to whom Mr. Hill was very dear and funeral arrangements will be held pending their arrival. His sister Mrs. Masius Bryant lives here in Osage.
