FORMER NORTH IOWA BEAUTICIAN DIES; FUNERAL AT OSAGEOsage – Mrs. Willis Gaines, 49, former Osage beautician, died late Monday afternoon at a Cedar Rapids hospital. She was stricken by a sudden illness in downtown Cedar Rapids. There had been no previous illness.
Mrs. Gaines was formerly Verna Hill.
The body was brought to the Champion funeral home Tuesday morning. Mrs. Gaines formerly operated beauty shops at Riceville, St. Ansgar and Osage.

FUNERAL THURSDAY FOR FORMER OSAGE WOMANOsage – Funeral services for Mrs. Willis Gaines, 48, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Champion funeral home, with burial in the Little Cedar Cemetery. She died Monday at a hospital at Cedar Rapids after being stricken while Christmas shopping with her husband and son, Aviation Cadet Jack Gaines, of Lubbock, Texas, who was home on leave.
Mrs. Gaines was born Verna Hill at Little Cedar to Fred and Minnie (McPhail) Hill on August 1, 1902. She was married in 1920 and they lived most of their married life in Mitchell County. More recently they lived at Eldora and Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include the husband and son, a daughter, Mrs. Merle Tibbetts, Osage, and 4 brothers; Stannard Hill, Osage; Grant and Fred Hill, Riceville; and Jay Hill, Minneapolis.
A brother, Clint Hill, former editor of the Mitchell County Press, is deceased.Mason City Globe Gazette, Wednesday, December 20, 1950
