Dale A. Lonergan, 78, of Charles City, died Thursday, October, 14, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

No services are being planned at this time.

Dale Allen Lonergan was born April 9, 1932, in Mitchell County, the son of Charles and Ruth (Gunsallas) Lonergan. He received his education from Mitchell County schools. Dale joined the United States Marine Corps serving in the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1953. During this time he served six months aboard a ship of the U.S. Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean area. He was wounded in Korea and received the Purple Heart at the age of 20.

In 1956 he was united in marriage to Gail Meyer and they later divorced. He then married Patricia Miller in 1966 and they later divorced. Dale was united in marriage to Laura Young on June 26, 1996. Over the years he worked as a self-employed carpenter. Dale enjoyed fishing, gardening, bird watching, taking walks and Norwegian Elk Hounds. He will always be remembered for his good sense of humor.

Living family members include his wife, Laura Lonergan of Charles City; three children, Russell Lonergan of Waterloo, Shirley (Ed) Platte of Charles City and Rebecca Lonergan of Forreston, Illinois; four grandchildren, Aaron and Abigail Platte and Rachael and Joshua Deletzke; two brothers, Roland (Grace) Lonergan of Mason City and Robert (Jean) Lonergan of Dexter, Minn.; a sister, Catherine (Corliss) Estergren of Chaska, Minnesota; and a sister-in-law, Bettylu Lonergan of Muskegon, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth Lonergan; and a sister, Pauline Whalen.
