MRS. LAURA RICHARDS

Laura Hartley Richards was born October 25, 1860, the daughter of Joseph and Susanna Hartley, at Constantine, Michigan. She passed away at Osage on June 20, 1945, following a lingering and painful illness of several years standing.

She spent her girlhood at Constantine, Michigan, and was united in marriage to Harvey H. Richards on April 28, 1881. The celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary last April 28. To this union was born one son, Roy, now residing at Osage.

After spending three years in their home locality in Michigan, Mr. and Mrs. Richards came to Iowa and to Osage, arriving on February 2, 1884. For one year Mr. Richards operated a dray in Osage, after which they moved onto a farm one mile east of town. For many years they lived on farms in the vicinity of Osage, finally coming to Osage to make their permanent home in 1912.

Mrs. Richards became a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in her girlhood. (truncated)

NOTES:

1 - In the article dated June 28, 1945 it says Laura was the daughter of Joseph and Susanna Hartley. Their son, Roy's 1925 Iowa Census has her maiden name as Artley and his Minnesota death index also has it as Artley.

2 - The June 21, 1945 obit for her says she had a brother Joseph Artley. I found a World War I Draft record for him that states: Joseph Wilmer Artley born August 6, 1875 and he died August 13, 1971 in Three Rivers, Michigan.

3 - Benjamin and Eliza Artley in the census above are buried in the Mottville Township Cemetery, St. Joseph County, Michigan.
