Former Iowan Killed in Colorado

OSAGE, IOWA - Harold Lemen, former Mitchell county resident, died late Sunday evening near Idaho Springs, Colorado. He was enroute with his wife to Denver, Colorado, and the couple was riding in a truck loaded with hay. The clutch burned out, and the truck began weaving and gaining speed going down a hill, with a deep canyon on one side. Lemen swerved the truck into the rocky heights on the left side of the road and it is thought he died instantly.

Mrs. Lemen was extricated Monday morning by a motorist after being on the mountain road several hours. She has broken ribs, bruises and cuts. Mrs. Lemen, who was born Verna Canny, of Osage, is the former Mrs. Emil Prochaska.

Mr. Lemen was born and reared in Illinois coming to Rockford, Iowa, several years ago.

He farmed in Mitchell County five years, leaving here in 1947 to purchase a ranch at Toponas, Colorado. The couple was married in June, 1948.
Mr. Lemen in his late 30s is survived by his widow, mother Mrs. Carrie Lemen, and brother Dwight, both of Los Angeles, Calif.

Mrs. Lemen indicated in a telephone call to Osage, Monday to her daughter, Mrs. Hubert Boekemeier that she plans to return to Osage within a short time.
