Montana Dec. 19.Funeral services for N. J. Brandt, 81, native of the New Haven area, and more recently of Philips county and Wolf Point, Mont., were held at St. Mary's Catholic church in Malta Mont., Dec. 19, Burial was in the Malta cemetery.
Mr. Brandt was well-known in Montana, having served with the Federal Land Bank commission from 1916 in that state. He operated a general store and post office in the Whitewater community after taking up a homestead there, and also served Phillips county as representive to congress one year. He was secretary and treasurer of the Phillips County Farmer's Mutual insurance association until he retired in 1957.
Nicholas J. Brandt was born at New Haven, Aug. 19, 1883, the son of Jacob and Katharina Brandt. His marriage to Josephine V. Blanchette took place at St. Thomas, N. D., Nov. 19, 1912.
Mr. Brandt died Dec. 15, at a nursing home where he had been a resident two years.
Mrs. Brandt preceded her husband in death, Sept. 1, 1939.
Surviving are his two daughters, Mrs. Cathryn Marshall of Wolf Point; Mrs. Bernadine Smith of Glasgow; one son, Robert Brandt of Wolf Point; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Louise Clark and Mrs. Rose Diers of Scottsbluff, Neb.; Mrs. Mary McCarthy of New Haven, Mrs. Kathryn Pint of Plymouth, Mich.; two brothers, Peter Brandt of New Haven and John Brandt of Fort Scott, Kan.
