Anna Maria “Mary” (Freund) Hemann
Anna Marie Freud was born November 5, 1826 in Lind, Kr. Mayen, Germany; the daughter of Johann “John” Peter Freund and Margaretha (Halfman) Freund.
The Freund family immigrated to the United States in 1846, and arrived in New York harbor on September 12, 1846 on the ship named Conte Zichi. They departed from Antwerp, Belgium. The ship record listed them as: John Freund 55, Margaretha Halfman 42, and Freund children Peter 22, Maria 19, Johan 17, Christian 15, Maria 11, Jacob 9 and Michael 8.
They first settled in Johnsburg, McHenry County, Illinois. Anna Marie’s parents passed away in Johnsburg, her father on June 1861 and her mother on October 27, 1855.
It was in Johnsburg that Anna Marie married Nicholas Hemann on October 15, 1849. In 1855 they purchased land in Iowa and moved to the Mitchell County area.
Anna Marie “Mary” (Freund) Hemann passed away on May 11, 1881 in Stacyville, Mitchell Iowa.
Survivors include: Her husband Nicholas; and 9 children: Mrs. Mathias (Maria) Krebsbach; Mrs. Henry (Anna) May; Mrs. Bernard (Margaret) May; Mrs. Joseph (Christina) Buhr; Mathias Hemann; Mrs. Peter (Gertrude) Weber; Mrs. Mathias (Elizabeth) Diedrich; Mrs. Joseph (Rosa Mary) Durben; and daughter Miss Julia Hemann.
