ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Sara Ritter, 89, of St. Ansgar, died on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, at St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Society Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial will be in Priem Cemetery, St. Ansgar.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Tuesday, at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, 207 S. School St., St. Ansgar.

Sara Kerckhove Priem Ritter was born on August 24, 1921, Meltonville, Iowa, the daughter of Victor and Marie (DeVos) Kerckhove. She attended school in Otranto.

She was united in marriage to Arthur Priem on Feb. 9, 1942. In the spring of 1946 they started farming on a farm near Carpenter and farmed until 1959. At that time they purchased the Carpenter Lumber Company. He preceded her in death in 1970.

She married Wayne Ritter on June 23, 1973. They operated the Carpenter Lumber and Hardware business until their retirement in 1980 and moved to St. Ansgar.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Arthur and Wayne; son Ronald; her parents, one sister Clara; and four brothers Robert, Gerald, Albert and Frank.

Sara is survived by three daughters: Donna Kirchgatter, of Kasson, Minn.; Joanne (Dave) Westrem, of St. Ansgar; Lori (Glenn) Cimmiyotti, of Stacyville; daughter-in-law, Lynn (Harlan) Hobbs, Tucson, Arizona; five grandchildren, Todd (Sandy) Kirchgatter, Jeremy (Amber) Westrem, Amber (Rob) Sherrard, Cari (Tyler) Johanns, and Logan Cimmiyotti. Five great-grandchildren, Kaela and Karly Kirchgatter, Aubrey and Brayli Sherrard, and Trey Johanns.
