WHITCOMB, 83, PIONEER, DIES
Body of Aged Resident Is Taken to Osage; Rites to Be Announced.

Charles City, Feb. 25. – Sylvander Whitcomb, 83, died Sunday night at the home of his son in East Lincoln township, which is about nine miles from Osage. He had lived in that vicinity for more than 60 years, serving as assessor for 30 years.

Surviving are his sons, Will, Warren of Clarks Grove, Minnesota; a daughter, Mrs. C. L. Richards of Lyle, Minnesota, and several grandchildren.
He had been ill a month. The body has been taken to Osage where funeral arrangements will be made, probably in charge of the Masons.

Sylvander Foote Whitcomb August 28, 1851--Feb. 1935
Son of Joel Willard Whitcomb and Olive Patience Abbey. Married Nellie Jane Upham (1852-1920) on March 13, 1875 in Mitchell County, Iowa. They had five children: Charles Warner, Warren M., William Ray, Edna Gertrude (Otto), and Mary A. (Richards). His grandson Donald Whitcomb is still farming the family farm east of Osage at age 96.
