Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 13, 1988 at Immaculate Conception Church, Riceville, for Paul Mayer, 90, of Riceville, who died at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital, Sunday, April 10, 1988 after a brief illness. The Reverend John Carpender officiated at the service and burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Riceville.
Paul was the son of Peter and Mary Heimer Mayer born January 19, 1898 in Stacyville. He attended area schools.
On May 10, 1922 he was married to Anna Meyer at Meyer, Iowa. To this union eleven children were born. Mr. Mayer was a retired livestock dealer.
Survivors include his wife, Anna of Riceville; five sons, Charles, Leonard, William and John of Riceville, and Marvin of Waterloo; four daughters, Mrs. Richard (Gladys) Neidert of Waterloo, Mrs. John (Ruth) Condon of New Haven, Mrs. Junior (Kathleen) Hummel and Mrs. Robert (Mary Ann) Shane, both of Riceville; 41 grandchildren and 55 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Donald in 1987; one daughter, JoAnne; five brothers and one sister.
