Mildred "Babe" Canny

OSAGE — Mildred "Babe" Canny, 78, of Osage, died Friday (Dec. 15, 2000) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage with the Rev. Ted Stowers officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mildred "Babe" Canny, was born Nov. 8, 1922 in Little Cedar, the daughter of Sidney and Helen (Fairbanks) Penney. She grew up in the Little Cedar area and attended school there. She graduated from the Little Cedar High School.

She was united in marriage to Clifford Canny in September 1946. They continued living in the Little Cedar and Osage area for their entire lifetime. Mildred worked many years at the Faith Nursing Home in Osage. She was a member of the Osage Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters, Veda Supple and her husband, Ken, of Marion, Betty Hoven and her husband, Mike, of Marion; one son, Rick Canny, of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Doris Canny, of Osage; two brothers, Merle (Mike) Penney and his wife, Marge, of Osage and Earle (Ike) Penney and his wife, Beverly, of Little Cedar; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clifford in March 1979, and one brother Vinus (Bill) Penney.

NOTE:
Mildred (Babe) Penney was born November 8, 1922 and married Clifford Canny September 9, 1946. They farmed until a tornado took their house with them in it. It took an hour or more to find Babe under a wall of the house. Babe worked for years at Faith home in Osage as a nurse's aid. They have five children.
