Herman Frederick Wilde was born the oldest child of Ferdinand and Augusta Wilde on the 22nd day of April, 1873 in Rock Township. Mitchell County, Iowa. On June 29 of the same year he received the sacrament of baptism. After he had been instructed in the fundamentals of the Christian faith he renewed his baptismal vows in confirmation at St. John's Lutheran Church, Rock Township on January 9, 1889.

On August 31, 1894 he entered holy wedlock with Anna Zarling, born April 30, 1874, which union dissolved scarcely two years later through the death of his young wife on February 15, 1897.

Two children were born to this union: Hedwig born March 19, 1895 and died March 20, 1895 at the age of 10 days, and Erwin born February 2, 1896 and died at the age of six months on August 9, 1896.

On May 50, 1897 the young widower found another helpmate in Martha Trachte of Jefferson County, Wisconsin. She was born August 5, 1873, daughter of August and Augusta Trachte.

The young couple then returned to Mitchell County to make their home on the farm in Rock Township, SE 1/2 of Sec. 7 where they lived for over 40 years. When Mr. Wilde suffered ill health from heart trouble it made it desirable for them to retire from the farm in January of 1940 to a home which he had earlier acquired in Grafton.

Mr. Wilde died at his home on May 8, 1942 at the age of 69. Mrs. Wilde lived in Grafton until 1958 and then lived with her children until 1964. She died on January 24, 1966 at the ate of 92 at the Good Samaritan Home in St. Ansgar. Both are buried in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Rock Township.
