ST. ANSGAR, IOWA — Ethel Kirchgatter, 78, formerly of 148 Clinton St., Mapleview, Minn., died on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, at Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar.

Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, at the United Methodist Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Ted W. Stowers, officiating. Interment will be at the St. Ansgar Cemetery.

Friends may call one hour before services on Saturday at the church.

Ethel was born December 18, l919, to Violet and Herman Heschke in rural Mitchell County, Iowa. She attended country school in rural Mitchell County.

Ethel married Ellery K. Kirchgatter on June 26, l938.

They moved to Illinois, where Ellery worked at a hardware store. Later they returned to Iowa where they farmed in rural Mitchell County most of their lives. Together they raised three children.

Ethel enjoyed working with her husband on the farm where they milked cows and raised crops. Her hobbies included gardening, baking and canning.

Ethel is survived by her son, Richard (Dick) Kirchgatter, and his wife, Elaine, of Canton, Mich.; her daughter, Violet Wick of Mapleview, Minn.; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one son, Robert; her husband, Ellery; two brothers and two sisters.
