ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Ardella Ilene Warrington, 91, of St. Ansgar died Thursday, August 19, 2010, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 23, at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, 207 S. School St., St. Ansgar.

Ardella Ilene Groth Warrington

St. ANSGAR, IOWA - Ardella Ilene Warrington, 91, of St. Ansgar died Thursday, August 19, 2010, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

Funeral service for Ardella will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar with the Rev. Robert Porisch presiding. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Church cemetery.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today, Sunday, August 22, 2010 at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, and again one hour prior to the service at the church.

Ardella Ilene Groth Warrington was born in St. Ansgar on September 8, 1918, the daughter of Anton C. and Ida Gunderson Groth. She was the only daughter in a family of seven children. Ardella was baptized on October 6, 1918, by the Rev. M.E. Waldeland at First Lutheran Church, and confirmed on June 3, 1933, by the Rev. O. A. Langehough.

Ardella graduated from St. Ansgar High School with the Class of 1936. She furthered her education at Waldorf College, Forest City, where she received an AA degree in elementary education. She taught departmental work in junior high at Lehigh and Randall, Iowa. Summers were spent at the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. After teaching several years, she became interested in doing something for our country in time of war besides waiting for a certain GI who was serving in the Red Bull division overseas.

Ardella attended Electronic Communication School in Omaha, graduated and was hired by Air Service Command, Wright Field, Dayton, Ohio. She resigned her job in Ohio in September 1945, came home to St. Ansgar to be married on Oct. 6, 1945, to Clifford Warrington at First Lutheran Church. They lived in Osage for several years and she taught at Orchard. In 1952 they moved to St. Ansgar and she taught at Mitchell. Two years later they purchased St. Ansgar Plumbing and Heating. She was the bookkeeper and also did secretarial work at First Lutheran Church.

She was active in church and community club affairs: American Lutheran Church Women, St. Ansgar Circuit, Mason City Conference, Iowa District serving as secretary. She served sixteen years as president of the First Lutheran Church Women, also serving as a Sunday school teacher, Bible Study leader. Being Norwegian, Ardella also belonged to Hallinglag, Solorlag, Vesterheim and Sons of Norway. Her father and brothers were genealogists, so she joined this family project.

Ardella lived her life for others; her parents, her siblings, her husband, her church, her former students and her many friends. She cared for them and about them. She helped them, laughed with them, and loved them. She will be remembered for her unshakable faith in Jesus Christ and for the many lives she touched in her journey here on earth.

Survivors include a brother-in-law, Charles E. Warrington, Gibbon, Nebraska; a sister-in-law, Mrs. T.B. Warrington of San Benito, Texas; nine nephews, ten nieces, many grand-, great-grand-; great-great-grand-; and great-great-great-grand nieces and nephews. Also, special friends Helen Lindholm, Minerva Millard, Rogene Gordon, Marcella Walk, Audrey McKinley and Grace Johnson.

Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, six siblings, relatives and friends.

NOTES:

Ardella was the daughter of Anton Conrad Groth and Ida Bertine Gunderson Groth.

She married Clifford Daniel Warrington on October 6, 1945. Cliff preceded her in death on November 16, 2000.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and by her six brothers: Assor "Conrad" Groth, Albin Irving Groth, Albin James Groth, Gerhard Groth, Norris Groth and Claire Holland Groth.
