PIONEER OF MITCHELL
IS BURIED AT OSAGE
OSAGE, IOWA - Sept. 5, 1924 — William Gutches, a pioneer of Floyd County and for more than 30 years a resident of Osage, died at his home Wednesday evening.
The funeral was conducted at the home Thursday afternoon, tho Masonic Lodge having charge of the commitment service.
Mr. Gutches was born, 73 years ago, in Warren, Illinois. His widow and four children: Mrs. Florence Daniels [newspaper said: "Sandiels"], Chicago; Mrs. Jennie Murphy, Hudson, Colorado; Mrs. Ethel Lambkin, Riverside, California, and Roy Gutches, near Rudd, Iowa, survive.

PASSES AWAY
William W. Gutches, son of Morris and Betsy Gutches, was born in Kane County, Illinois on February 15, 1851, and moved to Parkersburg, Iowa, with his parents in the year 1870. In 1872 he was married to Sarah Billings and moved to Floyd county, Iowa, where he resided on a farm until 1886, when they moved to Osage.
Four children were born to them: Jennie Murphy, of Hudson, Colorado, Ethel Lamkin of Riverside, Calif., Roy M., who resides on the home farm in Floyd county, and Florence Daniels of Chicago. All these, with their mother, survive him. A sister, Mrs. Julia Johnson, lives at Floyd, and Charles H. Gutches, a brother, resides in San Diego, California Mr. Gutches was a man of a type which is rapidly disappearing from this community.
He came as a young man at a time when the country was new, together with his wife. They knew the meaning of hard work and strict economy all their lives. They are the kind of people who made the development of this country possible and gave to us of this generation the privileges we enjoy. He saw the coming of the railroads and the many improvements in farm methods and in farm machinery that are now in use throughout this part of the country. he took great pride in his farms, but not more than in his family and home, which had the first place in his heart and life. He was in every sense a true American.
Mr. Gutches passed away Wednesday evening, Sept. 3, 1924. Funeral services were conducted at the home of the Rev. Walker, and burial was in the Osage Cemetery; the Masons having charge at the grave.
