Death of an Old Resident
Robert Riley Silliman was born in Yorkshire, New York, November 10, 1827, and died in Osage, November 8, 1903, and would have reached his seventy-sixth birthday the last day of this month.
His childhood and youth was spent in New York. In 1849, he came to McGregor, Iowa, where he resided until 1861, when he came to Osage and resided here ever since.
On January 1, 1862, he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Anderson. Four children were born in his home, where for 35 years he has lived in the house under the shadow of the Methodist Church, where the family now reside.
A stroke of paralysis last February left him feeble but he was a familiar figure on our streets until a short time before his death which occurred last Saturday morning.
The funeral services were conducted by Reverend Clark Tuesday afternoon, who spoke helpful words from the text, "Prepare to meet thy God."
Of this family, the oldest died when young; William Albert Silliman now resides in Rena, Nebraska. The daughters are, Mrs. Claud Bruyn of Rockford, Iowa, and Mrs. Loyal Dodge of this city. Mr. Silliman's parents died when he was quite young. Two of the brothers with two sisters still live in the old home. The other brother lives at Delam, New York.
