Osage, Iowa – Sam Costley, 87, former cream hauler and farmer west of Osage, died Friday evening at the home of his niece, Mrs. Ardene Brandaw, Mason City. He had been in apparent good health, a heart attack causing his death.

He was born March 29, 1862 at Platteveille, Wis., and came with his parents to Mitchell county s a young man. He married Hattie Torney in 1899 and the couple lived west of Osage. His wife preceded him in death two years ago.

He leaves two half brothers, Jess Bracken, St. Paul, Minn., and Roy Bracken, Charles City; a half sister, Mrs. Maggie Eggers, Nora Springs. Also preceding him in death were three sisters and a brother.

Funeral is at 2 p.m. Monday at the Champion Funeral Home; burial in Osage cemetery.

LAST RITES FOR
SAM COSTLEY, 78,
WERE HELD MONDAY

Funeral services for Samuel Costley, 78, were held Monday afternoon, June 27, at the Champion Funeral Home, with the Rev. S.O. Sorlien officiating. Burial was made in the Osage cemetery. At the services the Rev. Mr. Sorlien also sang "I Walk Today Where Jesus Walked" and was accompanied by his daughter, Grace.

Mr. Costley died suddenly Friday, June 24, of a heart attack at the home of his niece, Mrs. Florence Brandau. in Mason City, Iowa. He had made his home there the last six weeks after being hospitalized the three weeks previous.

Samuel Costley was born March 29, 1870, at Platteville, Wisconsin. He lost his father when five years old. He and his mother and brothers and sisters came to Mitchell County after that to make their home.

May 6, 1899, he was married to Hattie Torney of Osage. They made their home on farms near Osage until they purchased their own farm near Osage. Mrs. Costley preceded her husband in death on July 22, 1947.

Surviving are several half brothers and half sisters, including Mrs. Maggie Eggers of Nora Springs. He is also survived by his niece, Mrs. Brandau, and her children.
