Lester Bert Moore age 81, of Riceville, Iowa died Wednesday August 11, 2010, at Riceville Family Care & Therapy Center in Riceville, Iowa.
Les was born on May 29, 1929 in Urbana, Iowa to James and Mary (Schmidt) Moore. He enjoyed roller skating which is were he met his future wife, Esther Gran. They were married December 30, 1950. To this union seven children were born: Gary, Jerry, Mary, Sherry, Terry Larry, and Kerri. After their marriage they lived and farmed in the New Haven and Riceville area until 1981 when they moved into town. Les owned and operated the Riceville Locker for over 20 years, retiring in 1994. In his later years, Les enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. He was always ready to "take someone on" with a game of cards. He had a soft spot for his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Esther of Riceville; three sons: Gary (Sarah) Moore of Riceville, Jerry (Linda) Moore of New haven, and Larry (Deb) Moore of Riceville; three daughters: Mary (Mike) Solberg of Mason City, Terry (Keith) Johanns of New Haven, Kerri of Osage; one son-in-law Bill Vance of Charles City; 18 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and three grandcats. He is also survived by three sisters: Caroline Kearns of Cedar Rapids, Wilma (Harold) Seidel of Saratoga, and Doris (Don) Adams of Riceville; and by one sister-in-law, Shirley Moore of Guttenberg; and by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by is parents; one daughter, Sherry Vance; two brothers, Fred Moore and Delbert "Bud" Moore; and by two sisters, Mildred Bearbower and Norma Rouse.
Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville on Sunday August 15 from 4 - 8 PM and one hour before services on Monday.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday August 16, 2010 at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville, Iowa, with Rev. Gary Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Riceville.
