She was born on June 26, 1899, in Riceville, Iowa, the daughter of Michael and Rose (Erwin) Sullivan. She moved with her family to Osage as a young child, where she attended school and graduated from Osage High School in 1917. Elizabeth learned to drive an overland car at the age of 14, the first to drive in her family and probably one of the few women in the county to do so. She then attended Iowa State College in Ames. While there, she played in the orchestra and was a member of the Newman Club and the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She taught at the Pleasant Valley country school and at Washington Elementary school in Osage.

In 1972, they moved to a home on Maple Lane, in Osage. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1981. Sylvester passed away on Nov. 19, 1981.

Elizabeth was a life long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Over the years she served as president of the Sacred Heart Guild, St. Theresa and Mt. Carmel Circles. She also sang in the church choir and played the organ. She belonged to the American Legion Women's Auxiliary as a Gold Star Mother, and the Mutual Improvement Club of Burr Oak Township. Her interests included playing the piano and organ, sewing, painting and gardening; however, her greatest pleasure came from doing things for her family and others. She spent the last years of her life in the Starr Home in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, February 19, 1999, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Osage, with the Rev. Richard Kuhn, the Rev. Christopher Kuhn, Vicar Msgr.
