MATHIAS KREBSBACH

Mathias Krebsbach was born February 25, 1845 at Welcherath in the Rhineland Province of Germany. He was the youngest of two children born to Christian and Eva (Schlosser) Krebsbach. He had an older brother named Peter.

When Math was about eleven years old (1856), he and his parents and brother immigrated to America. They stayed in McHenry County, Illinois for a year before coming to Mitchell County.

In 1860 his parents bought a farm in Mower County, Minnesota just northwest of what now is called Johnsburg, Minnesota and Math lived with them until he was married.

On November 2, 1867 he married Mary Huemann. Mary was born November 17, 1850 in McHenry County, Illinois to Nicholas and Anna Mary (Freund) Huemann. Mathias and Mary lived and farmed near his parents by Johnsburg, Minnesota ehre the first two or three of their children were born. Then they moved to a farm about four miles northeast of Stacyville, Iowa (Stacyville Township, Section 17) where all but the youngest child were born.

They let the farm and lived in Stacyville about one year when they bought a farm up in Minnesota near Stewart where the youngest child was born. They lived on this farm until 1900 when they returned to Mitchell County and bought an acreage one mile southeast of Stacyville. In 1913 they purchased a house in Stacyville where they lived until their deaths.

Mathias died January 20, 1934 and Mary on March 24, 1938. They are buried in the Visitation Cemetery in Stacyville.

Children of Mathias and Mary were: Nicholas, Anna, Margaret, John, William, Katherine, Mary Wilhelmina, Bernard, Rose Mary, Anton, Anna Mary, and Bertha.
