M. J. May 77 died in hospital
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Hogan-McKee Colonial Funeral Home for Matt J. May, who died Wednesday morning at University Hospital in Iowa City. He was 77.
He was born October 12, 1886, at Stacyville to Henry and Anna May. He was married to Agatha Mauer February 13, 1912. He farmed in the Stacyville area until moving to Mason City in 1933. Mr. May was employed at Jacob E Decker & Sons until retirement in 1955.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and burial will be in the St. Joseph section of Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Survivors are two daughters Mrs. Roger (Kathleen) Smith 650 Rhode Island SE, and and Mrs. Tilman (Agnes) Grosland, 677 14th SE; one brother, John P. May, Stacyville; two sisters, Sister Mary Gerald and Sister Lydia, Dubuque; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife May 1944, one son, three daughters, four sisters and two brothers.
