Ole Wamstad

Ole Wamstad was born near Gran, Hadeland, Norway on October 9, 1846. He passed away at the home of his son, Lawrence, near Parma, Idaho on October 13, 1941, at the age of 95 years and four days. He came to America in 1864 at the age of eighteen years. He first came to Wisconsin where he attended public school.

He came to Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa in 1869, where he settled on the prairie as a pioneer. On June 2, 1871, he was united in marriage to Miss Karine Peterson Rosland. To this union six children were born: Bertha, who died at the age of one year; Carl and Lawrence of Parma, Idaho; Clara Galyan, who died December 1, 1924; Henry and Milton of Nora Springs, Iowa.

In January 1920, the wife and mother died. The father sold his home in Osage and went to Idaho to make his home.

He was a member of the Rock Creek Lutheran church, but later transferred his membership to the Osage Lutheran church.

He was a great reader and kept posted on world affairs. He was grieved by the downfall of his native land.

Besides the above-mentioned children, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren survive. A long, useful life has ended and the spirit has returned to the God who gave it.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. O.C. Myhre, from the Champion Funeral home at 1:30 and the Rock Creek Lutheran church at 2 o’clock. Burial was in the Rock Creek cemetery beside his wife on October 18th.

Those who attended the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Wamstad, and granddaughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Collins, Jr. and Harry Collins, Sr. of Chicago.
