Clarence Burtran Carter was born November 14, 1878 in Osage, Mitchell, Iowa according to his World War I Draft Registration, September 12, 1918. He was living at 435 Center St. Sioux City, Woodbury county, Iowa at the time of this registration and was 39 years old. He was sales manager for United Auto Supply in Sioux City.

He lists his wife as Mary E.

He was the son of John Carter and and Nettie (nee Lower) Carter McKanna, and the step-son of Frank McKanna.

The 1925 Iowa Census lists his father as John Carter and mother as Nettie McKanna, and his wife, Mary E., lists her parents as John G. Amos and Aletta Jewiss.

Former Osage Man Dies in Sioux City Suddenly

Osage, Nov. 30 - Word came Thanksgiving day that Clarence Carter had died at Sioux City from Pneumonia and ulcers of the stomach. His step-father Frank McKanna, and daughter, Mrs. Gus Swanson and husband, and Mrs. Tillie Coonradt left Friday morning to attend the funeral. Mr. Carter spent his boyhood in Osage.

The Mrs. Gus Swanson mentioned in the above obituary is his sister Jessie (Carter) Swanson, who married Gustave E. Swanson. The Tillie Coonradt mentioned is his step-sister Tillie (McKanna) Coonradt.
