Miss Katherine Emaline Mark was born October 8, 1878, in Guthrie County, Iowa and at the age of 5 years moved with her father and mother, the W. H. Marks, and the other members of the family to Hardin County, Iowa, where the family resided for nine years.

Then they moved to Grand Meadow, Mower County, Minnesota, residing there for a period of nine years, moving from there to Osage, where they have since resided.

Kate, as she was known by her family and friends, attended the public schools in the localities where the family resided, and was graduated from the Cedar Valley Seminary, at Osage, in 1899. Following that she attended Carleton College, at Northfield, Minnesota, for four years, and was graduated in 1903, valedictorian of her class, and a member of Carleton Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.

After completing her education she taught in various high schools in Montana, Minnesota, and finally going to California, where she has taught for the past fifteen years, being a member of the high school faculty at Fresno, California, at the time of her death.

Kate was also a member of the D. A. R. at Fresno, and of the Fresno chapter of Eastern Star.

Surviving of the immediate family is her mother, Mrs. Ellen Mark, Osage; Susan Carson and Adam Mark, a sister and brother, Osage; J. H. Mark, brother, Wadena, Minnesota; and two other sisters, Mary Mark, who is school nurse at Nashwauk, Minnesota, and Barbara Joyce, of River Falls, Wisconsin. There are numerous nieces and nephews.

Kate was taken ill the latter part of August, 1921, and went to Minneapolis for medical attention. The best of hospital and medical care were of no avail and she passed away at her home in Osage, December 5.

The Reverend Jennie Hitchcock, assisted by the Reverend J. D. Kern, had charge of the services, conducted at the Champion Funeral Home, and burial was made in the local cemetery.
