Henry Berges,
Well-Known Osage Man,
Died Last Saturday

Henry Berges, for forty-nine years a resident of Mitchell County, passed away at his home on North Seventh Street Saturday, August 29, [1931], after a long illness.

Mr. and Mrs. Berges came to Mitchell County soon after their marriage and settled in Cedar Township, where they lived until 1921, when they retired from active life, and moved to Osage.

Henry Berges was born in Muhlhausen Waldeck, Germany, April 21, 1854, and died at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 6 days.

He was married to Louise Kiepe, and the young couple sailed immediately for America, arriving when Cedar Township was unbroken land. He was one of the early settlers who contributed in a large measure to the progress of the community by close application to industry and thrift.

Mr. Berges was held in high regard by his fellowmen because of those traits, and also for his kindliness of nature and adherence to the Golden Rule in all of his dealings.

He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and all of his life was a faithful, conscientious worker for his Master. For a number of years he acted as deacon of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cedar Township.

His wife preceded him in death in 1920, and a daughter, Anna in 1909. Bertha, his daughter, and a son, George, two grandchildren and one brother of Muhlhausen Germany, survive.
