Elizabeth Marie Nelson
Elizabeth Marie Nelson was born at Moe, Norland, Norway, July 8, 1850. The years of her childhood and youth were spent in the parental home. She was baptized, confirmed and married in the Lutheran church of her native place. On July 20, 1870, she entered into the holy state of matrimony with Zacharias Nelson, also of Norland, Norway.
In the spring of 1883, she came with her husband to America, and located temporarily in Buffalo County, Wisconsin, where they made their home for a short time with Mrs. Nelson's father. later she moved with her husband to New London, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota where they lived about three years. From this place they moved to Ruthland, Sargent County, North Dakota. After four years of residence in this place, they returned to Nelson, Wisconsin, where she continued to live until 1914, when she moved to LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1912.
Sine moving to LaCrosse, "Aunty" has made her home with Reverend and Mrs. O. C. Mhyre. Mrs. Myhre is a niece of the departed. The only child born to her wedlock, Alfred Andrew, died at the age of 12 years, at the native place in Norway.
The deceased has enjoyed good health until taken seriously ill about two months ago, although it has been very noticeable that her physical strength has gradually been failing. Because of the nature of her last illness, her sufferings were severe and trying, but her mind was clear until three days before her death. She bore all her sufferings patiently, courageously and hopefully. The words of the great apostle were also her comfort: "I reckon that the sufferings of the present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us."
The following near relatives, half brothers and half sisters, survive: Joe and Ole Johnson, Nelson, Wisc; Jonas Johnson, San Diego, California; Mrs. Henry Stensland, Alaska; and Mrs. Frank Powers, Astoria, Oregon.
Mrs. Nelson died at the home of Reverend and Mrs. O. C. Myhre, March 28, 1931, and with the firm hope of reaching the better, the heavenly country. The cause of her death, besides the usual infirmities of old age, was cancer.
Reverend and Mrs. Myhre accompanied the remains to Nelson, Wisc., where funeral services were conducted in the Lyster Lutheran Church, of which the departed has been a member since first locating in that neighborhood. Interment was made beside her husband in the cemetery at that place.
Before leaving Osage, a short service was also conducted by Reverend T. P. Solem, at the Shelledy Funeral Home, March 30, at 10:30 a.m.
