Julia Barcel Died
Monday Afternoon
After Long IllnessMiss Julia Barcel passed away at her home Monday afternoon, after months of suffering from cancer. She was 59 years of age.
Julia Barcel was born in New York City August 17, 1872, and at the age of two years, came with her parents to Mitchell County, Iowa. The family settled on a farm near St. Ansgar.
The deceased attended the Spring Valley School. Later when a church was organized in the Spring Valley community she became an active member.
In 1927 she bought a home in Osage and devoted herself to the care of her aged mother. After three years her mother passed away, having attained the age of 98 years.
Two years ago Miss Barcel underwent an operation for cancer at Rochester, and was warned than she could live but a couple of years. The malady reasserted itself last fall. All winter she has been confined to her bed and seemingly hovering between life and death. The end came Monday, March 23, [1931].
Six brothers and two sisters have preceded the deceased in death; only one brother, Charles, at Osage, survives.
Services will be held this afternoon at the home in charge of the Reverend T. P. Solem, at 2 o'clock, and interment will be made in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.
