Sevat Swenson Died
At County HomeSevat Swenson was born in Torpe, Hallingdal, Norway, December 17, 1845. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in his native Land.
At the age of 16 he came to America. He spent the first eight years in this county in Clayton County, Iowa, then about 1870 he came to Mitchell County, where he remained the rest of his life. He worked as a farm hand in Rock and Cedar Townships for nearly sixty years.
The Andrew Fields granted him the free use of a house on their farm in recent years. Kindly neighbors kept a solicitous eye upon the aging man, but last summer it became apparent that he could no longer continue to live alone. In the fall he was admitted to the Mitchell County Farm. It was high time, for he was shortly thereafter confined to bed and utterly helpless.
Through his illness he spoke gratefully of the care accorded him at the County farm. He was also, deeply appreciative of the interest and concern shown by old neighbors and friends who remembered him faithfully during his illness.
He passed away March 14. He had passed his 85th birthday in December. Death was due to cancer. The only surviving relative whose whereabouts are known are two nieces; Mrs. J. W. Johnson, formerly of Osage, now of Minneapolis; and Miss Anne Moen, of Norway.
Funeral services at the Osage Lutheran Church Monday at 1:30. Interment was made in the Osage Cemetery beside a sister, Mrs. Ole Nelson, the mother of Mrs. J. W. Johnson.
