OLIVER HAUGEN

Osage, Iowa - Funeral services are pending for Oliver Haugen, 83, lifelong Mitchell County resident, who died Saturday at an Osage hospital.

Haugen was a retired farmer and carpenter.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Iva) Tordoff, Mason City, and Mrs. Dan (Mildred) Hummel, Osage, and a son, Gordon, Osage; and three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The Champion Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Note: Oliver Knutsen Haugen was born September 30, 1880 in Iowa, and died December 14, 1963 in Osage. He married Alma Isadore Teslow. She died in 1958.

NOTES:

Oliver Knudsen Haugen was born September 30, 1880 at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa to Knud Olsen Haugen and Gjertrud Olsdatter Levordsen, the youngest of their four children.

Oliver was confirmed June 30, 1895 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.

Married Alma Isadore Teslow March 16, 1904 Freeborn, Minnesota; three children.

According to the 1977 booklet "Meroa", written by Gertrude Crowell: Another blacksmith shop was built in the early 1900's, north of the general store on the Haugen property and managed by Oliver Haugen from about 1900 to1916. A residence was built close by where he and his wife Alma and two daughters, Iva and Mildred, lived. In a few years, they sold the property. Nick Pedersen's bought the house and lived there until Nick's death in 1942.

Oliver Haugen died December 14, 1963 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa and was buried at the Osage City Cemetery, Osage, Mitchell, Iowa.
