Lois Maxine Decker, age 86, of Cresco, died on Friday, January 4, 2002, at the Cresco Care Center where she had lived since 1999.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 7, at the Conway Funeral Home, Cresco. Pastor Rick Kielb officiated. Soloist was Deanne Hanson. Interment was in the Wayne Cemetery, McIntire.
Lois was born in Mitchell County, Iowa, near McIntire, on January 13, 1915, the daughter of Harrey E. and Winnefred (Frost) Duryee. She attended school in McIntire through the tenth grade.
On September 20, 1930, she married John Wesley Decker at the Methodist Parsonage in Cresco. They became parents of three children. She also raised many foster children and was very fond of her grandchildren and helped raise Sharon’s children. They moved into McIntire and Lois owned and operated a grocery store for many years. After she retired from the grocery store, she made a hobby of buying houses and remodeling them for resale.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, John W. in 1971; two children, Joyce Fuller and Donald D. Decker; three brothers, Kenneth, Gerard "Bunny" and Dale Duryee; and one sister, Norma Cable.
Those that survive her include her one daughter, Sharon Patton; six grandchildren, Judy Robbins, Wanda Platte, Audrey Watkins, Dean Patton, Nancy Kottke and Dixie Saldivar; six great-grandchildren, Laura Platte, Lindsey Watkins, Cole Watkins, Sidney Bell, Scott Bell and Joy Paulson; five great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Wendell Duryee and wife, Katherine of New Hampton.
