Duane "Snorkie" Mullenbach

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Duane "Snorkie" Mullenbach, 69, of St. Ansgar, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2010, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, in the presence of his family and loved ones after succumbing to a battle with cancer. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Lyle, Minnesota. Burial will be in the St. Ansgar City Cemetery, St. Ansgar.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. today, Monday, June 14, at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.

Born in rural Adams, Minnesota, in 1940, Snorkie moved to St. Ansgar, with his new bride, Maggie, in 1963. He dedicated 40 years of service to the community as a local volunteer fireman, serving 18 years as fire chief.

Snorkie sold his welding business in 2006 to spend time enjoying friends and family, gardening and watching Minnesota Twins baseball.

Snorkie was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lynn, his parents, Ernie and Leona Mullenbach,and mother-in-law and father-in-law Loretta and Leo Eversman.

Snorkie is survived by his wife, Maggie; his children: Dan (Barb) Mullenbach of Urbandale, Darrell (Jeanne) Mullenbach of Urbandale, Sue (Jon) Henaman of St. Ansgar, Elaine (Jym) Hansen of St. Ansgar, and 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Lorraine (Aaron) Mandler of Adams, Minnesota, and Veronica Juenger of Stacyville.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all those who have worked and celeberated life with Snorkie over the years.
