Illness fatal to Alfred Steiert
Funeral services for Alfred Steiert, 74, of rural Osage, were held Friday afternoon at the United Methodist Church in Little Cedar. John Gilbert of Osage officiated and burial was in the Liberty Township Cemetery at Little Cedar.
Mr. Steiert died January 16, at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Arrangements were by C. R. Champion and Sons.
Alfred Steiert was born on a farm in Tama County, Iowa, December 23, 1905, the son of Isidor and Marie Moeller Steiert. He attended the rural schools and was graduated from Garwin High School, later attending Iowa State University in Ames. In 1929 Mr. Steiert moved to Mitchell County and started farming.
Florence Pearl Bensend and Alfred Steiert were united in marriage September 23, 1933.
During his 50 years in this community he served on the Little Cedar school board, the elevator board, held various church offices as a member of the Little Cedar United Methodist Church, and worked with boys' 4-H clubs for 17 years.
Surviving are his wife Pearl; three sons, Jarald of Osage, James of State Center and Jackson of Osage; seven grandsons; two brothers, John of Gladbrook and Russell of Toledo.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and one sister.
