Gladyce J. Gooder was born May 14, 1904 near McIntire, Iowa, the daughter of Oliver L. and Cora E. (Harrison) Gooder. She was a 1921 graduate of McIntire High School and a 1929 graduate of Gates Business College in Waterloo, Iowa. Gladyce attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) and later worked the school’s office until 1942. She then moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, where she was the secretary for the Health Officer of the Tennessee Valley Authority from 1942 until 1967. Gladyce returned to Cedar Falls in 1970 and moved to the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. She was a member of Cedarloo Church of Christ in Cedar Falls and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program at the Lutheran Home.

Gladyce died Sunday, September 1, 2002, at the Lutheran Home, at 98 years of age.

She is survived by two nephews, John H. Church of Cresco, Iowa and Robert D. Inskeep of Farmington, New Mexico.

Gladyce was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lester Gooder; two sisters, Enid Church and Ruby Inskeep, and a nephew, William D. Church.

Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2002, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Chapel with burial at Wayne Cemetery in McIntire, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Home.
