Funeral Services
Held December 21
at First Lutheran Church

Funeral services for Mrs. Elling (Nellie Christine) Torblaa, 96, of St. Ansgar, who died Sunday, December 20, 1987 at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, were held Wednesday, December 23 at St. Ansgar First Lutheran Church with the Reverend Thomas Hughes officiating.

Mrs. Torblaa was born September 11, 1891 in St. Ansgar, the daughter of Just and Annie Olive (Goldberg) Thompson. She was baptized and confirmed in First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar.

She attended school in St. Ansgar and was graduated from high school in 1909. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls after which she taught school for five years.

She married Elling M. Torblaa June 11, 1916 at First Lutheran Church with the Reverend Waldeland officiating. The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary June 11, 1966.

Mrs. Torblaa was interested in the work of her church and community. She was a Sunday school teacher and member of the ALCW there, woman's club and Garden club.

Survivors include two nephews, A. Ray Thompson of Louisville, Kentucky and Kenneth Goplerud of St. Ansgar; three nieces, Bernice Lehman of Chatfield, Minnesota, Elfrieda Uzlick of St. Ansgar, and Betty Goplerud of St. Ansgar; a sister-in-law, Viola Torblaa Haugen of Mesa, Arizona and many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elling, two sisters, Lulu and Belva, and two brothers, James and Arthur.

Burial was in First Lutheran Cemetery.
