Verna Mae Hartwig 86, died Sunday October 30, 2005, at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood.
Funeral service will be held 11 A.M. Saturday November 5, 2005, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 North Delaware, Mason City, with Reverend Mark Lavrenz officiating.
Graveside service will be held 2 P.M. Saturday at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 P.M. at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street N.E., Mason City.
Memorials may be directed to Verna M. Hartwig Memorial Fund.
Verna Mae Plath was born February 21, 1919, in rural Worth County, the daughter of Herman and Margaret (Casey) Plath.
Verna graduated from Grafton High School. She moved to Manly where she worked at the café. She was united in marriage to Harold Hartwig on August 23, 1942, in St. Ansgar; to this union four children were born. Verna and Harold lived in St. Ansgar and farmed on the family farm, until 1966 when they moved to Mason City. Verna worked for Tempo for 19 years, and then worked for Sears up until her retirement.
Verna loved camping, fishing, gardening, sewing, baking, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a past member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, and a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mason City.
Verna is survived by her children, Gary (Jean) Hartwig, of Northwood, Marjory (Delmer) Daniels, of Mason City, David (Sue) Hartwig, of Northwood, Duane (Jeanne) Hartwig, of Waverly, grandchildren, Scott (Tammy) Hartwig, Todd (special friend Suzie) Hartwig, Tammy (Tim) Charlson, Stacy (Dawayne) Charlson, Wendy (Chris) Rish, Tim (Hope) Hartwig, Angela (Corey) Rike, 10 Great Grandchildren, brother Cecil Plath, of Northwood, along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Margaret Plath, husband Harold Hartwig and brother, Virgil Plath
