Funeral services for Clarence E. Halvorson, 71, who died at his farm home near St. Ansgar Monday, August 31, 1959, were held Friday, September 4 at the First Lutheran church with the Rev. Don Hamilton officiating.
Clarence Edward Halvorson, son of Andrew and Lucinda Halvorson was born August 4, 1888 on the old Halvorson homestead south of St. Ansgar. He was baptized August 26, 1888 by the Rev. Johann Olsen and confirmed October 18, 1903 by the Rev. M.E. Waldeland.
He received his education in the Newburg township school and the St. Ansgar Seminary.
He was married to Lydia Larsen September 28, 1916. Three children were born to this union.
They lived on a farm near Park Rapids, Minnesota for four years after which they moved back to the St. Ansgar community where he was engaged in farming, trucking and cream hauling for the St. Ansgar Creamery.
In 1957 he moved to his present farm where he was engaged in farming until his health failed three years ago. He suffered a heart attack and died August 31 at 8:30 p.m.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia, two sons, Alton of Lyle and Gerald of Zumbrota, Minnesota and one daughter, Esther (Mrs. Melvin Quam) of Austin, Minn., also 12 grandchildren, three brothers; George and Irvin of St. Ansgar and Elmer of Lawton, Oklahoma; four sisters, Maria at the Good Samaritan Home in Mason City, Ida (Mrs. Carl Dahl) and Clara of St. Ansgar, and Lorene (Mrs. Frank Spender) of Boonton, New Jersey. Mr. Halvorson was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers and one grandson.
Burial was in the First Lutheran cemetery with Rev. Hamilton in charge of the committal services.
