Henry Theodore Norby, 1871-1932
Henry Norby, a former well-known Cedar Township man, died suddenly at the home of his sister, Mrs. Marie Lundene, some time during the night Saturday December 1, 1932. The cause of death was a heart attack.
Mr. Norby returned to Osage about a month ago from Cooperstown, North Dakota, and expected to make Osage his home. He had been in poor health for about a year, but had been about. However, he was ill the night of his death, and his sister had gone to his bedside to minister to him. She left him sleeping quietly. In the morning when she again went to his room she found that he had passed away.
Hendrik (Henry) Theodore Norby was born in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa on February 4, 1871. He was the son of Halsten Iverson and Taran Olsen Norby. He grew to manhood on the old Norby homestead and continued to live there until the fall of 1905. At that time he moved to Cooperstown, North Dakota, where he bought land and established a home. Excepting for a few years in which he lived in town, he continued to work his farm until the fall of 1932.
On the first day of January 1907, he was united in marriage to Elise Nordbyhaugen. She preceded him in death on July 19, 1930.
The near relatives surviving are four brothers: Olaus, Lauritz, and Carl, of this community, and Edward, of Parshall, North Dakota. There are also three sisters: Mrs. Anton (Marie) Lundene, Mrs. N.J. (Caroline) Johnson, both of Osage, and Mrs. Martin (Elizabeth) Klemesrud, of Grand Forks, ND.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. O.C. Myhre in the Rock Creek Lutheran church, December 5th at 2 p.m. Interment was made beside his wife in the Rock Creek Lutheran cemetery.
