William Soy

FUNERAL FOR WILLIAM SOY, 87 HELD SATURDAY

Funeral services were held Saturday morning at Sacred Heart Catholic church in Osage for William Soy, 87, who died last Tuesday at Floyd County Memorial hospital. Mr Soy had been in ill health since 1959, and was confined to the hospital four weeks prior to his death.

The Rev. Fr. Thomas J. Conroy, church pastor, was in charge of the services. Burial was in the church cemetery and arrangements were by C. R. Champion and Sons.

William Soy was born in Lohrville, Iowa, March 12, 1879, the son of William and Mary Finnigan Soy. He farmed as a young man and later followed the carpentry and woodworking trades.

His marriage to Elizabeth Todd of Arcadia, Nebraska, took place at Ord, Nebraska, June 4, 1902. They remained in that area until 1920, when they came to Mitchell county. He was a carpenter here until he was injured in a fall at work in 1959.

Mr Soy was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, of Osage; five children, William E. of Ames; Chester of Cedar Falls; Joseph of Simi, Calif.; Leo of Hunting Beach, Calif.; Susan, Mrs. Clarence Steiger, of Kensett; 29 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Miss Katie Soy at a nursing home in Fort Dodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Theresa, five sisters and three brothers.
